The day I turned 18,
It felt like any other birthday.
Just another year older,
Perhaps wiser?
Not quite.

Was there some kind of switch
That someone forgot to flip
To make me become an adult?
Life doesn't work that way.
Nothing is that simple.

Days passed by,
Slow as iced honey.
Months passed by,
Like sand through a sieve.
Still I remain a child.

College, yes.
No work,
No license,
No car to get around.
It was really the same
As high school.

Then, one day,
The sword came crashing down
With the weight of my mistakes.
It shattered the tinted lens,
That blinded me with bliss.

Days will pass,
Slow as iced honey.
Months will pass,
Like sand through a sieve.
And then I will have to go.

Away from the home,
That I have known.
Away from my parents,
My brother,
My friends...

  Away to start anew.
     Away to learn how
To become what I should already be.

I understand why.
But I'm not "okay".
Not yet.
The sadness is overwhelming,
The fear is nearly crippling.

But emotions are fleeting,
Quick to be replaced.
I won't be alone.
I will never be alone.
And I know that I am loved.

  I will survive this,
   I will overcome this trial,
    And become stronger.

Days will pass,
Slow as iced honey.
Months will pass,
Like sand through a sieve.
And I will become
Who I am meant to be.
Poetry, because I'm sad...

Although sad this is still beautiful and true to most of us out there.

Thank you. It's good to know that I'm not alone. :)

Moving away isn't so bad... At first, it's intimidating... The Unknown... The anticipation will kill you, but you'll rise, reborn into the world once the shock fades... But, you already know all this, I'm sure...

Seriously, this poem is amazing... Sums up the emotion of it all too well...

... I might have to put music to it and make it a song...

... I'll get back to you on that... Maybe...

I'm glad you like it. Writing it definitely made me feel better, but I didn't think it was that good. ^_^
